Why is oatmeal slimy




















It was refreshing and yummy, and I looked forward to it every morning. It didn't hit me as slimy at all. So I tried soaking a bowl of oats in dairy-free milk last night I have a dairy allergy , and they taste slimy.

Just like hot oatmeal. Anyone know how to make raw oats not be slimy? I suppose I could eat them dry, but I wouldn't be able to consume many that way, as they're bland and flour-y. You might also try steel cut oats which you can get out of the bulk bins at Whole Foods or similar stores rather than rolled oats, or see if you can find Scottish-style porridge oats I eat Old Wessex brand , which we get at Sunflower Market, which I'm pretty sure doesn't exist outside the southwest.

I never liked oatmeal because all I knew was Quaker rolled oats or shudder instant oatmeal, for exactly the reason you don't: the sliminess. But the steel cut oats and the Scottish oats don't just dissolve into gruel - you can actually see the individual oats and chew a bite as you eat it.
