Demetri—thinking he has finished off Edward—is taken by surprise when Edward suddenly emerges and, with a surprise attack, beheaded him. Alice charges at a panic-ridden Jane, dodging and taking down several the Volturi guards and witnesses along the way. Jane tries to use her gift only to see that Alice is being shielded by Bella.
Realizing that she doesn't have a chance without her power, Jane attempts to run. Alice catches up to her within seconds, and throws her to a waiting Sam, who then tears off her head. Aro is devastated and infuriated by this. Caius then angrily charges at Tanya and catches her in a chokehold. Garrett , a nomadic vampire, comes to Tanya's aid and kicks Caius into the awaiting hands of Kate , Tanya's sister.
Kate uses her shocking power to immobilize Caius, allowing Tanya to partially behead Caius from the jawline to avenge their sister. Stefan and Vladimir , two vampires who greatly despised the Volturi, charge at Marcus. The man openly welcomes his death as the pair severe his body. Aro, angered by his amount of losses, finally joins the fight and sets his sights on Bella. Edward runs in his direction as Aro delivers a blow that sends Bella flying across the battleground into Edward's arms, knocking them over.
A brief two-on-one scuffle daze him for a moment and Edward then attempts to kill Aro himself, only to be outperformed when Aro turns around and begins to crush Edward's face with his bare hands.
Bella jumps on top of him and begins to pull off his head. Edward, upon being released, assists her in the matter. Bella grabs the fire brand and sets Aro's head ablaze while, in the background, many of the Volturi's leftover guard members close in on them. Aro's head is consumed by the fire. The vision ends with a very much alive Aro still standing in front of Alice, and he is astounded.

Carlisle wanted the Volturi to follow this same diet, but to no avail. The five core members of the Volturi are definitely not the extent of the group. It is the mass number of extra vampires that make the Volturi the largest coven in the world. The infamous guard members we know so well in the series do not actually have a leadership role.
For example, Jane is a member of the guard due to her ability to inflict imaginary pain. She is high-ranking, but was not actually there for the formation of the Volturi, nor their fight against ruling covens.
Volterra is the town in Italy in which the Volturi reside. Their biggest concern is secrecy, and this is just one of their rules that maintains their way of life without leaving a trace. They have their food brought in from outside sources, luring mostly tourists into their trap. Heidi, a member of the guard with the power of attraction, has the task of acquiring humans without leaving behind any evidence.
This is often easy for her to do, given her unique ability. Even with all their self-imposed limitations, the Volturi never go hungry. They consider it the vampire's responsibility to silence the human, either by destroying them or making them a vampire as well. Often, the Volturi don't even find out about these instances because vampires take care of them immediately. They obviously fear the consequences should the Volturi see the need to get involved.
It's been over a decade since the first Twilight movie was released, but the franchise still has plenty of dedicated fans. In the late s, especially , it was almost impossible to open a magazine or turn on the news without it being mentioned in some way.
Taking a look back at the books and movies allows a ranking of the most powerful vampires who have appeared in the franchise from weakest to strongest. To create this ranking, physical strength, additional powers such as the ability to read minds , and political power are all examined. Rosalie is nearly fearless, loyal to a fault, and always ready to fight, which makes her powerful despite not being able to read minds or manipulate the elements. Unlike most of his siblings, Emmett is often removed from the drama of the Twilight franchise. Instead, he pops in and out for comedic relief, or so the other characters can use his strength.
He might not have power in vampire social circles, and he might not have any distinct abilities, but he is even stronger than the average vampire. Vampires in general are super strong and durable. It's noted multiple times in the books and movies, however, that Emmett's physical strength is even greater than the rest of his coven.
Heidi isn't a powerhouse of a vampire. Without her, however, the Volturi wouldn't have nearly as much power as they do. It's Heidi who is responsible for luring people into the Volturi's clutches.
She acts as their receptionist to the outside world, but she's seemingly friendly and persuasive - until she isn't. Heidi might not be someone the audience sees a lot of, and she might not get down and dirty in the vampire conflicts in the series, but she's a necessary part of the Volturi power structure. Without her tendency to bring them humans, they'd have a hard time feeding and maintaining their anonymity. The patriarch of the Cullen coven, Carlisle's superpower might as well be his compassion.
Carlisle retains much of his humanity, not acting feral like a lot of the other vampires introduced in the series. A doctor, he wants to help people and live alongside humans without disrupting their way of life. He doesn't hold as much power as the Volturi, but he does have the respect of a lot of the vampires.
The various covens introduced in the later chapters of the franchise arrive to offer their support to his family - and to satisfy their own curiosity.
